Frequently Asked

Sydney DJ Hire — Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to hire a DJ in Sydney?
DJ Hire Sydney pricing typically ranges from $900 to $2,500+ depending on event length, equipment, MC services and any add-ons.
How far in advance should I book a Sydney DJ?
DJ Hire Sydney bookings move fastest in peak season (October through April) — 4-6 months out is comfortable for most birthdays, corporate events and engagement parties, with Saturdays in Sydney and the Southern Highlands the first to go.
Do you offer MC hire as well as DJ services?
Yes. We offer DJ-only, MC-only, or DJ+MC packages. Our MCs are bilingual (Greek and English), trained in run-sheet management, comfortable with formal speeches and informal banter, and experienced at keeping the energy where it needs to be at each phase of the event. Most clients book DJ+MC as a package because the cost saving is significant compared to hiring two separate suppliers.
What areas of Sydney do you cover?
Our Sydney DJs cover all of Sydney metro, plus Wollongong, the Southern Highlands and the Hunter Valley. We can travel further for larger events — get in touch with your venue location and we'll confirm whether travel costs apply.
Can I provide a song list or do-not-play list?
Both, and we strongly encourage it. The pre-event consultation is where we build out your music preferences, must-play tracks, special moments (speeches, toasts, cake cut, surprise entrances) and anything you want avoided. The DJ reads the room on the night — but your list is the foundation we work from.
What equipment does your Sydney DJ hire include?
Professional DJ controllers, a sound system sized to your venue, two wireless microphones, basic dancefloor lighting and a complete backup setup in case anything fails. We can scale up with additional speakers, subwoofers, lighting rigs and special effects (cold sparks, CO₂ jets, smoke machines, dry ice) depending on your event and venue.
Are your Sydney DJs insured?
Yes. JJK Entertainment carries public liability insurance covering all DJs at all events, and our equipment is PAT-tested annually. Most reputable Sydney venues require both — we provide certificates on request, no fuss.

Buyer's Guide

Hiring a DJ in Sydney: What to Look For

Five things that separate a Sydney DJ who quietly delivers your event from one who turns it into a story you regret telling.

1. Years actually DJing, not years registered as a business

A DJ Hire Sydney listing that says "10+ years experience" can mean ten years of weekly gigs — or one DJ who picked up the hobby a decade ago and books occasional events. Ask how many events they've personally played in the last 12 months. The honest number tells you everything about whether they can read a room under pressure.

2. Backup gear at every event, not "available on request"

Speakers fail. Controllers crash. Power circuits trip. Any Sydney DJ worth hiring brings a complete backup setup — second controller, spare cables, a redundant speaker — to every single booking. If a DJ tells you backup is an add-on or extra fee, walk away. The cost of a silent dancefloor for 30 minutes far outweighs the value of any saving.

3. A real consultation before the event

The Sydney DJs who land every event are the ones who do the work upfront. You should expect at least one detailed conversation — phone, video or in person — where they map your run sheet, your must-play list, your do-not-play list and the moments that matter. Generic "we'll figure it out on the night" is a red flag.

4. Public liability insurance and PAT-tested equipment

Most reputable Sydney venues now require both. Public liability covers anything that goes wrong on the night; PAT testing certifies that the electrical equipment is safe and compliant. If your DJ can't produce certificates within 24 hours of asking, your venue may refuse them entry. We've seen it happen.

5. A fixed quote in writing, not a "we'll work it out" estimate

Every DJ Hire Sydney booking should come with a written quote that lists every inclusion, every add-on and the total. Verbal estimates turn into invoice surprises. If a DJ quotes you a vague hourly rate without itemising what's included, ask them to put it in writing — and notice how that request is received. Good DJs welcome it.

JJK Entertainment ticks all five — that's the whole pitch. If you want to talk through your event before booking anything, the consultation is free and there's no obligation to proceed.
